Horse Guard Welcomes New Chief Executive Officer

Since our founding in 1978 by Del & Lori Johnson, Horse Guard has grown into a company that embodies the passion and lifestyle devoted to horses while helping thousands of horse owners keep their horses happy and healthy. Not only have we helped fuel many horses, but are a second-generation family-owned and operated company. Del, along with wife Lori, built Horse Guard with their two daughters playing active roles in the company with Dr. Kelsey as our Equine Nutritionist and Ty Natalie as marketing director.

However, it is time to transfer over the “reins”. Consequently, we are THRILLED to introduce our new CEO, Ty Natalie (Johnson) Newman!

Meet Ty Natalie

The Early Years

Just like the passion for nutrition, the love of horses was in Ty’s DNA and ignited early in her life. Ty’s upbringing was spent on horseback, training and competing alongside her sister and father. From caring for her horses to long days in the arena, Ty’s hard work brought success in PeeWee rodeo then in junior and high school rodeo.

Ty attended Cal Poly University as a member of the Rodeo team where she qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo all four years. As a natural leader, Ty was Oregon State High School Rodeo President and while in college, was the Cal Poly’s Women’s Rodeo Captain.

Team Roping

After college, Ty continued her path in the performance horse world as a successful header in team ropings throughout the nation. Alongside her sister, Kelsey, she was amongst the high-ranking female ropers in the United States. She continues to compete on her horse “B”, her 9-year-old AQHA gelding, and training her young horse “Cougar”, her 6-year-old AQHA gelding. Ty has had great success in the roping arena and has qualified for World Series Team Roping Finals over and over.

Outside the Arena: A Business Mind & Broadening Horizons

Ty has always had the urge to continue to learn and broaden her horizons. She loves business and she loves to travel the world! Like her dad, founder Del, she has a natural aptitude for business and all its challenges. What makes a business succeed, how to create an efficient business model, what makes employees love what they do, what makes customers feel great….Ty is constantly looking for answers to all these challenges through continued education and networking.

Ty has been more places than most would dream of going! She devotes time and effort into experiencing new things and learning about different cultures. This interest has resulted in travel throughout the world, always aiming to see different countries, their people and cultures.

Moving Forward

In August 2021, Ty married Trevor Newman at the Horse Guard ranch in a beautiful ceremony with the HG herd galloping in the background. Whether its a whinny heard from outside her office window, to watching her two nieces (Dr. Kelsey’s daughters) fall in love with riding, there is no shortage of horses in Ty’s life. Her experience and enthusiasm for this lifestyle and these 4 legged creatures make her the perfect fit to spearhead the HG team. We look forward to many years with CEO, Ty Natalie, helping fuel happy, healthy horses.
